Abnormal Pap
The Pap smear test is the only screening test for cancer in the world that has caused a decrease in occurrences and deaths from cancer. Being alarmed or worried is a completely normal reaction when you are told your Pap smear is abnormal. But it's important to remember that most cases of abnormal Pap smear results do not indicate cancer. What an abnormal Pap smear does mean is further diagnostic procedures must be discussed with and OB/GYN like Dr. Mikel. The evaluation of an abnormal Pap smear often involves an office procedure called colposcopy. Based on the results of colposcopy, Dr Mikel will present options for treatment of the abnormal cells.

Irregular Bleeding
Abnormal bleeding may occur at any time in the menstrual life of a woman. Something as simple as pregnancy may be the cause of a missed period. Hormone imbalances, uterine fibroids, endometriosis and abnormalities in the uterine lining are common causes. Dr. Mikel will take a complete history, perform a thorough exam and order the necessary test to develop a treatment plan. If surgery is required, his years of experience will ensure your optimal outcome.

The Hysterectomy Alternative
Dr. Mikel is continuing his efforts to provide women with high-quality healthcare, now offers revolutionary laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH) to his patients. The major benefit of LH is shorter recovery time compared with conventional abdominal hysterectomy. Most patients are fully recovered in two to three weeks compared to the six-to eight-week recovery with abdominal hysterectomy. Other benefits of LH include less bleeding, minimal tissue to heal and less pain related to surgery. In fact, many of Dr. Mikel's patients are able to return home on the day after surgery.
