Well-women exams...for life.
An annual exam is a once-a-year visit to your gynecologist for a general health check including a discussion of your complete medical history, a breast exam and Pap smear as well as a discussion of the latest options for family planning. An annual exam is also called a routine checkup, yearly exam, annual Pap and preventive visit.
So that any problems you may have can be treated early, when they have caused less damage and are easier to treat, it is important that you have regular well-woman exams.
- If you are sexually active or over the age of 18, you should have a well-woman exam once a year.
- You may need more frequent exams if you plan to become pregnant soon, have a history of female health problems or have a mother or sister who developed breast, uterine or ovarian cancer.
- You should have an exam immediately if you detect a lump or other unusual change in your breast or have symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection.
An annual well-woman exam is part of your healthcare. If it has been more than 12 months, please contact Dr. Mikel to schedule an exam.
